July is summer camp month, for many boys the highlight of their scouting year. A week at camp provides an opportunity to develop teamwork and leadership skills with extended time to focus on advancement and merit badges. There are a myriad of activities to experience including swimming, climbing, archery, shooting and horseback riding.
Over the course of a Scout’s career, the Troop’s selection of camp venue will generally rotate
through our council owned camps with the occasional inclusion of an out of council camp. This year we’re
going to Camp Meriwether on the Oregon coast. One of four council owned
summer camps, the others are Camp Baldwin on the east flank of Mt. Hood, Camp Cooper located in the coast
range northwest of Willamina, and Pioneer south of Mt. Jefferson. In 2012 the troop went to Chief Seattle Council’s Camp Parsons on Washington’s Olympic
Peninsula and we have fond memories of Oregon Trail Council’s Camp Baker near Florence.
